What is Pilonidal sinus?

A Pilonidal Sinus is a disease in which a tiny tunnel develops in the buttocks region, i.e., in the clefts of the anal area. Pilonidal sinus holds hairs, dirt, and debris. They are painful, and in severe cases, it gets infected ooze pus, blood with a nasty smell. The condition is common for men, young adults and those who sit for a long time, e.g., driversi.e it is called as Drivers Disease.

Types of Pilonidal sinus

There are three classes as:

  • Acute Pilonidal abscess
  • Chronic Pilonidal disease
  • Complex or recurrent Pilonidal illness

Preventive Measures

  • Regular washing the area on a daily basis with a soft soap
  • Keep the anal area clean and dry
  • Ensure that there were no hairs present around the sinus

What are the causes?

The exact reason behind the disease is unknown, but it may be the result of the following factors:
The body considers this hair as the external object and develops antibodies for that. The antibody reaction ends with cyst and person gets many sinuses aligned to the skin.

Pilonidal Sinus Symptoms

The primary symptoms of the disease are that it develops small, dimple-like cleft on the skin surface. After infection, they develop cyst with fluid or an abscess that contains pus.
